Future News Predicted Recent News About China and Iran

China and Iran have popped into the news. Recent articles in The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and this week's New Yorker magazine describe specific events on the world scene which are lining up with predictions I made in "Nuclear War: A Futurist's View, the Bible Code, Mayan Prophecy and My Vision of World War III." (For the sake of brevity, when I refer to this piece again below, I will call it "Nuclear War.")

The predictions made in "Nuclear War" were about the U.S.A., China, Iran and the lead-up to World War III.

First, some background. I had originally written "Nuclear War" on October 10, 2003, and I e-mailed it on that same date to several people for the purpose of recording and documenting the date "Nuclear War" was written. At that time I had written that a nuclear war would start in the Middle East. What seemed out of place, however, was the strong feeling I had been getting that China would eventually cause that war to escalate. For many years I had felt--foreseen--that China would play a pivotal role when, eventually, this major war broke out. In October 2003, while writing "Nuclear War," I was asking myself, "Why China?" This week the answer to my question may be emerging in the latest news.

China
In "Nuclear War" I had predicted that at some point after World War III had started, a cease-fire would seem to bring the war to a halt before it went out of control; but, I then added, "I feel 'guided' in a very general way to conclude that suddenly and without warning World War III will start up again, expanding and escalating into a second phase when another nation enters into the conflict. For a reason or reasons as yet unknown to me, this other nation appears to be China."

"When China enters the conflict," I wrote, "the U.S.A. will by then have over-committed too many of its troops to the fighting in the Middle East."

This week's news describes a developing conflict, even a possible standoff, between the United States and China, something which would have been widely viewed as unlikely when I wrote about China in October 2003.

This week's news says the conflict between the U.S.A. and China is focused on Iran. (This is another country about which I wrote in "Nuclear War", in which I stated specifically that "Iran seems to be the wild card." I will have more to say about this below in the next section on Iran.)

What does this week's news say about the U.S.A., China, Iran and the lead-up to World War III?

According to a recent New York Times article:
"The Bush administration imposed penalties this month against some of China's largest companies for aiding Iran's efforts to improve ballistic missiles. The move is part of an effort by the White House and American intelligence to identify and slow important elements of Iran's weapons programs." ("U.S. Is Punishing 8 Chinese Firms for Aiding Iran," by David E. Sanger, The New York Times, January 18, 2005)

The article goes on to say, "American officials said the list of exports [from China] was classified, but they described them as high-performance metals and components that are banned under the Iran Non-proliferation Act of 2000 because they could aid the country's efforts to extend its missile fleet."

"Iran's efforts to develop longer-distance missiles that are capable of ever larger payloads are increasingly of concern among intelligence officers. American officials have charged that Iran is trying to develop nuclear warheads, which its leadership denies."

"'We suspect that the Iranians also have the Chinese bomb design,' a former American official said several months ago. 'What everyone is looking for is the missile that matches up with the design.'"

"A senior administration official…said that 'while they are helping us on North Korea, they have not been as helpful on Iran,' perhaps because of China's ever expanding need for oil and other energy sources."

When I predicted in October 2003 that China would enter into an upcoming World War against the United States, the prediction did not seem to fit the "reality" of the time. Economic trade had been strengthening between the two nations and conditions seemed normal. But "reality" has a way of changing. Now, fifteen months later, a conflict is brewing between the U.S.A. and China, and the conflict has come into the public view. Are we setting the stage for what Carlos Barrios and the Mayan Elders have called a "big war" in 2006 in which "we can destroy ourselves"? Conditions suddenly appear to be moving us in that direction, and 2006 looms ever closer in the not-too-distant future.

Iran
When I posted "Nuclear War" in Future News on December 2, 2004, I realized that Iran would be part of the World War III scenario, so I decided to add one more prediction to what I had already written on October 10, 2003. Here's a condensed version of the prediction I added: "Iran seems to be the wild card. …The prospects of what Iran can or might do with its real or perceived arsenal of weapons of mass destruction will become a major focal point of the world's fears and concerns during this time. …The fear will be whether Iran might be bluffing or not."

Unlike the prediction about China which is still unfolding and may or may not ultimately come true, this prediction about Iran may have come true this week. Let's see what the latest news reports say about it.

According to The New York Times, Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Iran's former president, "announced last October that Iran had successfully increased the range of its missile, Shahab-3, to 1,200 miles, putting Israel, American bases in the Persian Gulf and even parts of Europe in range." ("Iran, Calling Bush's Words 'Threats', Says It Is Not Intimidated," by Nazila Fathi, The New York Times, January 19, 2005)

Also in the same New York Times article, Iran's defense minister, Ali Shamkhani is quoted as saying, "We have developed a might that no country can attack us because they do not have accurate information about our military capabilities. We have produced equipment at a rapid pace with minimum investment that has resulted in the greatest deterrent force."

These are strong words. Maybe Shamkhani's words are true, or maybe he is bluffing". To reiterate, Future News predicted that Iran "will become a major focal point of the world's fears and concerns. …The fear will be whether Iran is bluffing or not." This Future News prediction seems to have come true, with confirmation of it reported in the New York Times.

Another reference to Iran in "Nuclear War" said, "Iran seems to be the wild card." A retired C.I.A official recently used the same phrase, "wild card," when commenting about Iran's difficulties in its weapons work. Seymour Hersh, in his article, "The Coming Wars," in this week's New Yorker magazine, writes, "A retired C.I.A. official…confirmed that Iran is known to be having major difficulties in its weapons work…. 'The big wild card for us is that you don't know who is capable of filling in the missing parts for them. North Korea? Pakistan? We don't know what parts are missing'." ("The Coming Wars," by Seymour M. Hersh, The New Yorker, January 24 & 31, 2005, pp. 41-42).

Iran as the wild card? Iran bluffing? This Future News prediction, regrettably, appears to be confirming itself right before our eyes.

The Los Angeles Times recently reported:
"Israeli analysts have said they believe Iran could develop a bomb in two to three years. U.S. intelligence has predicted it could take longer. Israeli officials have said they might turn to military strikes as a last resort.

"But military strikes would have no value if Iran developed the ability to enrich uranium, which Israel believes is possible within a year, the officials said. At that point the Iranians would be able to disperse their equipment sufficiently to put it beyond the reach of any attacker."

Can We Prevent the Coming Destruction?
Conditions in the Middle East may well be in the final year of a build-up for a nightmare nuclear war.

I ask if the horror of a nuclear war is a necessity. Is a nuclear holocaust the only means available to teach us the lesson of love? We have the intelligence and the resources to incinerate our planet and ourselves. It has become a matter of survival for humanity to awaken to the love each of us is capable of giving to one another.

The death and grief caused by the Indian Ocean tsunami was unimaginable, yet in the wake of the tsunami disaster people's hearts suddenly opened. From all around the world there was an outpouring of love, the power of which was at least in equal measure to the destructive power of the tsunami.

We human beings are capable of unconditionally giving to each other. The power of a 9.0 earthquake and a devastating tsunami reminded me and many people around the world of our connection to each other. We are fragile creatures who are capable of great love.

The future I foresee and write about, the future foreseen by the Mayan Elders and other visionaries and seers, is one possible future. The future we have foreseen can be changed.

Within our reach now is the unique opportunity for humanity to take an evolutionary quantum leap. We can waste this opportunity by allowing the extinction of human life in the fire of a thermonuclear war; or we can take advantage of this opportunity by merging our combined intelligence with the openess of our hearts and evolving into what I have foreseen as the "new humanity" living on a new earth. We are in this together. None of us is insulated. A global nuclear war would annihilate us all; or we could raise up our hearts and apply our minds to prevent war by changing the energy, by bringing ourselves into ecological and spiritual balance.

The Mayan Elders predict a "big war" in which "we can destroy ourselves" in 2006. There is very little time left.
